Authorities stated they were alerted by a man who noticed a vehicle in Hanau smeared with red-colored liquid

Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.

Law enforcement report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.

The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.

Officers then discovered many other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police report early analysis indicate the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.

"There is still no clue as to its origin; authorities are presently not aware of any harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.

City officials stated they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.

A high-ranking political figure said the attack left him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.

"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right attack in 2020," he posted on social media, referring to the killing of nine people by a shooter targeting individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
